LEGENDARY former Highlanders and national team goalkeeper Peter “Captain Oxo” Nkomo has refuted reports that he has joined ambitious Zifa Southern Region Division One side Bantu Rovers as a goalkeepers’ coach. Nkomo who played for Highlanders until an injury forced retirement, said he was only at Bantu Rovers to help his former teammates and friends.

“I have not joined Bantu Rovers, no, I am just there to help my colleagues after Methembe Ndlovu asked me to come in and assist.

“Mokse is my friend and since I am not doing anything at the moment I said why not,” said Nkomo who left Highlanders for the Zvishavane side FC Platinum in 2011.

Bantu Rovers secretary and spokesman Wilbert Sibanda confirmed that the legendary goalkeeper was in their camp to offer the necessary expertise to their young technical bench led by Johannes “Tshisa” Ngodzo.

“It’s true he is here just to assist,” said Sibanda.

Bantu Rovers are on position six with 22 points from 14 games and trail run-away leaders Bulawayo Chiefs by 12 points with 16 rounds of matches before the season ends.

The ex-Premiership team has also signed Fortune “Fokoza” Ncube formerly with Lancashire Steel, Black Mambas and Bulawayo Chiefs, veteran striker Chipo Tsodzo has been training with Bantu Rovers and yesterday they were expecting to be joined by FC Platinum’s duo of striker Norman Maroto and national Under-20 midfielder Edmore Tsoro.
