where a call was made to translate the party’s constitution into vernacular languages.
The meeting was held in accordance with the party’s constitution, which stipulates that such meetings should be held at least twice per year for the purposes of reviewing party programmes and projects.
Addressing Zanu-PF supporters at Uhuru Nakazi Business Centre in Chegutu last Thursday, Chambara District chairwoman Cde Constance Sha-mu, said the party constitution should be made available to all members in local languages.
She said most party supporters in rural areas did not have access to the party’s constitution and those who had it did not understand the contents because it was written in English.
“Zanu-PF party constitution booklets should be made available to all members of the party in the district so that they can be guided accordingly. We are also calling the district to recommend to the party that the constitution be translated into Shona and Ndebele,” she said.
Cde Shamu also took the opportunity to explain to the grassroots leadership resolutions of the party’s National People’s Conference held in Mutare last year.
She said the conference resolved to empower people economically in line with the country’s indigenisation and empowerment laws. As part of social responsibility, Cde Shamu said, it was noted that companies should contribute to the development of communities they operate from.
To this end, Cde Shamu said: “Companies such as Zimplats, which are based in the area and that exploit the natural resources found therein, should play their part by contributing towards the development of the area.”
The meeting also reflected on a number of challenges affecting the area including the food situation.
It was noted that Chambara district was facing an acute food shortage following incessant hailstorms that ravaged the area.
In this regard, Zanu-PF urged Government should improve irrigation development to enhance agricultural productivity. Zanu-PF supporters hailed efforts by the local Member of Parliament Cde Webster Shamu in enhancing agricultural activities in the area by providing them two tractors.
