The Makomo@6 musical gala held at Hwange Colliery stadium on Friday lived up to its billing with top musicians Jah Prayzah, Alick Macheso and The Charambas wowing music lovers who thronged the venue in their numbers.

But before the established musicians took to the stage, Jambezi-based Kwejani Band paved the way with a polished performance.

From there, Sulu took to the stage and ignited the scene. He first performed Chauta, a song off his father – Simon Chimbetu’s numerous albums.

The song drew wild cheers from the crowd.

Following hot on the heels of the “Captain” were the maverick Charambas. Clad in sparkling white regalia, Baba na Mai Charamba brought the house down with their spellbinding and energetic stage act. Revellers sang along to tracks Machira Chete, Buruka and Mhinduro Iripo among many others.

Peter Moyo, the Young Igwee also put a decent performance before a triumphant entry by man of the moment, Jah Prayzah at about 2AM. He was greeted by a roaring applause before he perfomed hit tracks Mudhara Vachauya and Watora Mari off his latest album.

Bass guitar virtuoso Alick Macheso and his Orchestra Mberikwazvo outfit were last on the stage. Never the type to disappoint, their nimble footed dancing served as an icing on the cake on what was another memorable musical extravaganza.

Show promoter, Eusabia Rayire said: “I’m humbled to have successfully hosted yet another exciting, incident free and well organised show which brought everyone together in Hwange.

“From the look of things, people are already looking forward to Makomo@7 showcase and it’ll be bigger.” — @tobymandox.
