A MADLAMBUZI man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a four-year-old child who was sleeping with her mother in her bedroom.

The 33-year-old man unlawfully entered the bedroom in August, sneaked into the Grade Zero pupil’s blankets and raped her.

A court heard that the minor’s mother woke up and lit a torch after she heard her daughter crying. She then saw the man raping her daughter.

The man pleaded guilty to rape charges before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Chrispen Mberewere.

Mr Mberewere sentenced him to 15 years in prison and three years were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar crime in the next five years.

Mr Mberewere said despite the man not wasting the court’s time by pleading guilty, he would go to jail for a long time.

“It’s sad for a four-year-old sleeping in her mother’s bedroom to be raped by a rogue. You will go to prison so that children are safe. Make sure that when you come out the first thing you must do is to find a wife,” Mr Mberewere said.
