CHOPPIES Zimbabwe has added 72 workers to its 1,200 staff complement after opening a new branch, Choppies Solomons, in Bulawayo on Friday.
Solomons is the 14th branch under the Choppies retail supermarket brand in the City of Kings.
Speaking at the official opening, Choppies chief executive officer Ramachandran Ottappath said 72 people had been employed at the new branch.

“Choppies Solomons has created employment for the local community as we’ve already employed 72 workers in this branch. Choppies has a total workforce of 1,200 employees in Bulawayo,” he said.

Ottappath said it was their mandate to offer services and goods to people.
“We’re proud to be able to offer services and goods to our valued customers. Choppies Solomons is going to offer customers the value of their money just like all the other 13 Choppies supermarkets,” he said.

Speaking at the same event, Siqokoqela Mphoko, Choppies director, said the opening of the new branch was a sign that the economy was changing.

“The opening of this new branch shows the economy is slowly changing. It shows that it’s possible to survive and operate in Bulawayo. Our customers have supported us up to this stage and we’re glad of their continued support,” he said.

Choppies’ oldest staff member Benedict Madzana officiated at the opening on behalf of the Minister of State for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Nomthandazo Eunice Moyo.
