SEVERAL companies scooped awards of excellency at the just-ended 2017 Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) congress here. Retail chain Metro Peech and Browns landed the company of the year title after scooping the top buy local award.

The awards were presented last Thursday at a dinner hosted on behalf of the CZI where Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Mike Bimha was guest of honour.

The buy local award, also termed the presidential award, was introduced to honour local businesses that are actively involved in promoting the purchase of Zimbabwean goods and services.

“Buying local goods is the best thing Zimbabwean companies can do,” read the brief about the award.

The category featured retailers and wholesalers who have proven shelf and in store local branding and with a visible inclusion of local brands.

OK Zimbabwe was the second runner up while N Richards became the first runner up. The award was pioneered by immediate CZI past president, Mr Busisa Moyo, who is also United Refineries chief executive officer.

Art Corporation was voted the listed company of the year beating Seedco and Colcom to 1st and 2nd runner up respectively.

The award recognises businesses that have recorded growth and consistency after three years of working with the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange.

BOC Gases, Crystal Candy, TelOne and ZFC were all voted in alphabetical order as the lean leadership companies of the year.

In the energy efficiency category, Sino Zimbabwe was voted the Midlands and national winner while Delta, Tanganda and National Tyre Services were Matabeleland, Manicaland and Mashonaland provincial winners respectively.

Kefalos is the exporter of the year beating Beitbridge Juicing. The CZI 2017 congress started on Wednesday and ended on Friday in Victoria Falls.

It was held under the theme: “Growing manufacturing competitiveness: Realities and Realignment.”
