ZIMBABWE Prison and Correctional Services Commissioner General Paradzai Zimondi has urged his officers to desist from engaging in corrupt activities.Speaking at a passout parade of 48 Chief Prison Officers who underwent a Prisons Management Course at the ZPCS Training Centre at Ntabazinduna yesterday, he said prison officers should remain loyal and committed to their work.

“Ladies and Gentleman as you leave this institution, I urge you to desist from any form of corruption, corruption has become a double edged sword whose results are treacherous to the perpetrator and the country’s standing at large,” said Comm General Zimondi.

“Allow me also to take this opportunity to thank all those who industriously worked towards the success of this course. Having said this, I therefore implore you as officers to remain disciplined, exemplary and be the shining stars on the zero tolerance to corruption.”

He said the ZPCS boasts of a sufficiently trained workforce.

“The Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services continues to run internal as well as sending officers on external training programmes all earmarked to improve staff performance at various levels. More so, such staff development programmes are tailor made to instill professionalism which is geared to provide excellent service at every call of duty,” he said.

The 48 graduands were drawn from the organisation’s four administrative regions. They were made up of nine females and thirty nine males comprising chaplains, artisans, administrators and matrons.

Comm General Zimondi said such management training programmes were being undertaken with a view to buttressing the correctional stance that the service has underscored to broaden.

“These programmes ensure that graduands are equipped with the pre-requisite, divergent and managerial knowledge and skills necessary for improved job performance amongst members of staff,” said the Comm General.
