EASTVIEW High School has scored a first by producing a whizz kid who attained first position at national level in three science subjects, namely Mathematics, Geography and Biology in the 2013 November Cambridge international O’Level examinations .
Mazvita Ndawana, together with her former Mathematics, Geography and Biology teachers were invited to receive her prestigious accolades at a hotel in Harare recently.

She was rewarded with three invaluable certificates for attaining top position at the Outstanding Cambridge Learners in Zimbabwe event sponsored by the Cambridge International Examinations Board in collaboration with the British Council and the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Scholarship fund.

Mazvita went against the stereotype that the girl child plays second fiddle to her male counterparts when it comes to excellent academic performance in science subjects.

She passed Mathematics, Geography, Biology, English, Chemistry, Literature in English and Physics with flying colours, an unparalleled feat at the newly established Eastview High School.

Also at the occasion was Minister of State Security, Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, chief executive officer of the Cambridge International Examinations Michael O’Sullivan, senior schools development manager for sub-Saharan Africa Mark Barber, director of International Network of Cambridge International Examinations Janet Morris, Zimbabwean director of the British Council Jill Cox, director of the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Scholarship fund Jonathan Maposhere and other dignitaries from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

Addressing guests at the event, Cambridge International Examinations Senior Schools Development manager for sub-Saharan Africa, Mark Barber gave a glowing account of the Cambridge Examinations Board.

Congratulating the outstanding students, family members, teachers and school principals, the guest of honour, chief executive officer of Cambridge International Examinations O’’Sullivan said:

“Every year, thousands of students use our qualification to enter universities such as Harvard, Yale, Oxford and off course our own Cambridge. We know we are doing something right because these students who have gone to universities tell us very often that they find themselves more academically prepared than other students.

“Universities also praise us for helping develop students that are already equipped with a high level of skills and knowledge required to cope with the rigours of university studies but of course we provide the tools, it is you the students and teachers who really deserve praise.”

Mazvita’s distinguished performance came as no surprise as she dominated her peers in class performance and regularly scooped numerous prizes in various subjects in virtually all the previously held school prize-giving ceremonies.

She even won a district public speaking award in July 2012 together with her team mates.
Mazvita is undoubtedly destined for great things.

Managing director of Eastview High School Message Ncube said:
“Mazvita is one of our students who performed remarkably well in the November 2013 Cambridge examinations. She has defied all odds by debunking the myth that Cambridge examinations are very difficult. We are very impressed by her distinctive performance and would like to congratulate her together with her parents and the three teachers who were invited to receive her merit awards on this occasion. May they keep up their unprecedented venerated standards.”
