Sungura ace Alick Macheso yesterday said he is human and accepts the circumstances arising from the ongoing divorce proceedings with his second wife, Tafadzwa Mapako.The musician was unwilling to shed much light on the issue when our Harare Bureau visited his house in Waterfalls in the capital, choosing to drop a few idioms.  He likened Tafadzwa or the controversy surrounding his divorce from her to an irritating pest that can cause big problems if attention is paid to it, but can simply go away if ignored.

“I am just human. Dai zvisina kuitika kwandiri zvaizoitika kunani (I accept what has happened) but the only person who knows the truth is my lawyer,” said Macheso.

“Problems are there but they will soon fade away because if a driver is at his work and he gets disturbed by a wasp if he concentrates on that he can cause an accident but on the other hand if you ignore it it can fly away.”

He added that he grew up in a peaceful family that had no fights. Reports were that Tafadzwa milked him to the extent that he failed to send his first daughter Sharon to school in China but the musician said that was untrue.

“Sharon suffers from ulcers and she is also diabetic and the doctors in China had instructed us to send another close relative to take care of her but then we sat down as a family and agreed to have her here,” he said.

Asked if the ongoing divorce saga would affect the wedding of his daughter that has been set for August 12, Macheso said: “That will not affect anything.  She is my daughter and we are in good books as you can see, her mother is here and she is very supportive of me.  People are there to destroy but one has to be strong enough as it is part of life.”

He also opened up on the issue of the welfare of the band saying all was well with the band.

“It is surprising that some reports are exaggerating the issue.  Well that’s your job and that brings food on your table so I cannot say much and my lawyers are handling the matter,” he said.

Despite the setback, the musician said he was moving on with a number of shows lined up.

“Today we will be performing at Mupfumi’s venue Pick and Save before taking our act to Chipinge at Dzonzai Night Club and we are preparing to take our act to the United Kingdom soon,” said Macheso.
