FIVE Bulawayo performers have been selected to represent the city at this year’s Starbrite talent search finals being held in Harare next month. The five – Explosion (dance category), Vilika Arts (traditional dance category), Godlwayo Primary School Wushu Club (special category), Kundai Muzambindo (singing category) and Solitaire Ncube (poetry category) came out tops at the semi-finals held last weekend at the Reps Theatre in the capital.

The five finalists will join 20 others for the finale which will be held at a venue and date to be announced.

The finalists told Chronicle Showbiz that they were proud to have made it this far as it had been a difficult journey.

“The competition has been an eye opener for me as it has taught me that I can do anything as an artiste. It has also taught me life skills such as time management, discipline and team work,” said Solitaire Ncube.

Ncube said he was nervous but confident of coming out tops in his category due to the passion he has for the arts.

Explosion dance group member, Mwezi Mwezi said the Starbrite journey had been a challenging one as his group had come face to face with talented competitors in their category.

“After two months in the competition, the competition got stiffer stage after stage. This taught us to work hard together as a team and have a positive attitude towards our work. Probably this is why we made it this far,” he said.

Godlwayo Primary Wushu club coach, Simbarashe Simango, said he was excited that his group had qualified for the finals as he believed they had worked hard for it.

“I am happy for the boys as they have showed their dedication for the martial arts display from the time we entered the competition at the auditions level, up to this day.

“We are now working flat out on preparing for the finals,” he said.

The show’s executive director, Barney Mpariwa, said the 25 finalists were going to be in a week-long boot camp before they battle it out for the finals.

“Preparations are already in place for the finals. The Starbrite team is working on securing a venue between Harare International Conference Centre and the Reps Theatre.

“We cannot reveal the day of the final now because we still have to finalise the rehersals for our finalists and arrangements between us and ZBC for the shooting of the final show,” he said.
