CONFEDERATION of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) president and United Refineries Limited chief executive officer, Busisa Moyo, has been nominated as one of the top 200 future economic leaders by a reputable French business institute, Institut Choiseul.

Moyo was in France for a three-day visit recently where he met members of that country’s Senate and Parliament.

He was part of 62 young economic leaders drawn from 40 countries that was addressed by that country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Fabius.

During networking moments, Moyo also had the opportunity to meet high ranking French officials and the private sector including the Paris Chamber of Commerce and a number of companies that import from Africa and Zimbabwe.

A letter addressed to Moyo by Institut Choiseul president, Pascal Lorot reads: “You’ve been selected with regard to your dynamism, your exceptional course and an active contribution to the emergence of Africa as a major player in the global economy, and I congratulate you most warmly”.

Moyo said his nomination was an honour and clear testimony that the country still had a bright economic future.

“The nomination means that Zimbabwe still has a future and I’m honoured to be a Zimbabwean being recognised by a global French Institution among 200 other Africans on the continent who are positively influencing their countries and the future of Africa,” he said.

France has a number of companies with investments in Zimbabwe such as Lafarge, Total and Bureau Veritas, among others.

“The gesture and willingness by the French to re-engage with Africa on different terms from those of the past century is refreshing and shows that in the eyes of the world, Africa has the mind, intellect and will to engage in equitable terms to the advantage of its own future and the generations to come,” Moyo said.

Moyo has been with United Refineries since 2005 when he joined the company as its finance director.

He holds a Bachelor of Accounting Degree from the University of South Africa and completed his articles with Deloitte and Touche in 1999.

He also holds a Global Executive Masters in Business Administration from IESE Business School in Spain.

The new CZI boss has also attained executive education qualifications on mergers and acquisitions from the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business in the United States.
