MATER Dei Hospital is suing a Bulawayo woman over more than $30 000 in medical expenses incurred by her late son who was admitted at the hospital.

The debt emanates from medical services and drugs supplied to the late Bongani Ndlovu by the hospital between May 31 and October 14 last year.

In papers filed at the Bulawayo High Court on Thursday, the hospital cited Genny Ncube, the estate of the late Bongani Ndlovu and the Assistant Master of the High Court as the defendants.

Ncube bound herself as a surety for the medical bills while the Assistant Master of the High was cited by virtue of being the authority responsible for the registration of deceased estates.

Ndlovu’s ailment was not disclosed, but his medical bill was put at $31 846, 72.

Mater Dei Hospital is also claiming the money with interest at the rate of 13 percent calculated from July 8 this year to the date of full and final payment.

Ncube is alleged to have also undertaken to pay the legal costs on attorney-client scale if the matter went to court.

Mater Dei Hospital through its lawyers, Coghlan and Welsh Legal Practitioners said despite having been given time to pay, Ncube failed to settle the bill.According to the hospital’s terms and conditions which were agreed upon between Ncube and the institution, the money was supposed to have been paid upon Ndlovu’s discharge.

The defendants have not yet filed opposing papers.
