WARD 28 councillor, Collet Ndlovu was chucked out of a full council meeting on Tuesday as he was deemed to be improperly dressed when he turned up for the indaba in a checked suit.

Clr Ndlovu’s navy blue and white jacket and a matching navy blue pair of trousers was the talking point at the start of the meeting.

When the mayor clr Martin Moyo ordered him out, clr Ndlovu was rescued by a council employee who lent him a jacket to enable him to attend the meeting.

Soon after the meeting’s opening prayer, Ward four councillor Silas Chigora raised a motion to have the councillor ejected from the meeting over his dressing.

“Your worship, I want to raise a point of order. According to the Standing orders when a councillor attends a full council meeting he must be dressed in a matching suit.

When we were trained, we were told that one has to put on a matching jacket and pair of trousers but I noticed that one councillor is not properly dressed,” said Clr Chigora.

The mayor who was chairing the meeting, asked clr Chigora to name the councillor who was not dressed properly and he pointed at Clr Ndlovu.

The council chambers were briefly turned into a comedy house as city fathers argued whether it was a suit or not.

“Ngayithenga iyisudu (I bought it as a suit). . . It’s my choice of suit, it’s not about a matching jacket. This is a suit,” said Clr Ndlovu adamantly.
Ward 27 councillor Siboniso Khumalo defended Ndlovu but the mayor would have none of it.

He ordered clr Ndlovu to leave the council            chambers.

“We will not spend time arguing whether it’s a suit or not. For the comfort of all of us, I will ask councillor Ndlovu to kindly leave the chambers. We will meet at the council in committee,” ruled Clr Moyo.

Clr Ndlovu packed his bags and prepared to leave the chambers but was saved by a council employee who gave him a navy blue jacket which matched his trousers.

He quickly removed his jacket and put on the matching jacket he was given.

When he returned clr Ndlovu said to the mayor: “Khuluma ke khathesi sizwe (What have you to say now).” The mayor responded: “Now you are welcome, it looks like a suit”.

The meeting continued thereafter. — @AuxiliaK
