J. Cole rocks fans in SA

J-Cole-southafrica-yomzansiAMERICAN rapper J. Cole has received a nod of approval from Johannesburg fans after a thrilling performance at the Ticketpro Dome on Saturday. Over 14,000 people attended the Castle Lite Unlock event with SA rappers Emtee, Kwesta and Nasty C as some of the many supporting acts for the night. Organisers of the concert said this was by far the largest turn out it had over the years. Ten Castle Lite consumers from Zimbabwe including Mthulisi Ncube, Elison Mpofu, Isaac Takaza, Tawanda Kaseke, Tinashe Maokomai and Smart Dzvairo where part of the 14,000 who made history. They had been flown to Johannesburg last Friday on an-all-expenses paid trip courtesy of Delta Beverages.

Castle Lite SA brand manager Ramona Kayembe said: “Anytime we pull together an event like this we really expect phenomenal support, but I think the demand was really overwhelming for the fact that we had to re-release tickets and open up an entire new floor.

“That meant there was a real demand for the experience and for this particular artiste.” Nasty C, the Juice Back hit-maker, who has been deemed by some industry heavyweights as a great lyricist, described his performance with J Cole as the best yet.

Sharing what makes him unique to the SA hip-hop industry Nasty C who is also a producer said: “The difference between me and everyone else is I’m not playing it by the textbook, I’m playing it by ear. And that’s all music is at the end of the day, it’s sound.

“I went to a lot of studios where a lot of producers were shocked that I knew all the stuff that I knew and I didn’t even go to school for it. I think that’s what makes me stand out.”

Meanwhile, Chris Brown returns to South Africa on July 2 for an exclusive one-night performance at the Kings Park Stadium in Durban held the same weekend as the Durban July.

The event will see Brown share the stage with a host of international and local artistes and tickets for the event start at R450 for general access and R750 for Golden Circle. – Eye Witness News
