A MAN from Madlambuzi has been arraigned before the courts for allegedly axing his girlfriend after she refused to sleep over at his homestead.
Zakhe Ngwenya (26) appeared before regional magistrate Mr Chrispen Mberewere facing an attempted murder charge. Mr Mberewere remanded him in custody to July 30.

Prosecuting, Mr Simbarashe Manyiwa alleges that on April 18 this year, Ngwenya visited his girlfriend and spent the day with her.

“He also spent the night and the next day.

Ngwenya then asked the woman to go with him to his homestead for a sleepover but she refused,” said Mr Manyiwa.

“At around 6PM, Ngwenya asked his girlfriend if she meant what she said and the woman maintained that she was not interested.

Out of anger, Ngwenya took an iron bar and told her that he was going to kill her.”

The court heard that Ngwenya grabbed an axe and struck his girlfriend once on the forehead.

“The woman ran to her father who was outside the yard.

“A police report was made leading to Ngwenya’s arrest and the woman was taken to hospital for medical attention,” said Mr Manyiwa.
