MARCEDALE Farm in Figtree yesterday walked away with most prizes at the 2014 Zimbabwe International Trade Fair annual fat stock show. The show was organised by the Bulawayo Agricultural Show Society and attracted cattle from six farms.

Marcedale and the Bulawayo Municipal Commercial Undertaking owned Aisleby Farm entered stock in most of the sections which included champion of 10 oxen, pen of five oxen, pen of three oxen and champion slaughter steer.

Cattle showcased at the show were pen fed.

The cattle were judged by Phil Rogers assisted by Zephaniah Dlamini.

Rogers said the quality of cattle, especially in the pen of 10, was extremely good. He said it was difficult for any farmer to put together a pen of 10.

The pen of 10 section was won by Marcedale Farm whose bullocks averaged 520kg while those supplied by Aisleby Farm had an average weight of 433kg.

“The group of 10 was an outstanding group. They were uniform in every aspect, size, colour… They are a credit to the exhibitor,” he said.
Ninety head of cattle were on show.

Others who won were Lucky Sibanda of Mangidi Farm who won in the champion two-tooth section. He also won in the single steer four-tooth section.

All the cattle which were on show will be auctioned today.
