MODELS from various parts of the country battled it out for the Miss Grand International Zimbabwe edition on Saturday in Bulawayo, with Fungai Mawanda being crowned the queen. Nothando Ncube was the first princess while Grace Ncube was the second princess. The pageant was a success as everything went on well and the organisers were happy with how the event turned out.

The pageant was divided into three categories corporate, swim and cocktail wear.

The beauties went through a question and answer segment from which they scored points depending on their ability to answer them.

Fungai proved to be the best, as she outclassed her competitors in all the categories and she got her deserved prize. The beautiful Fungai was good with her answers and she had a great night on the ramp.

Licence holder, former Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2010, Samantha Tshuma said she was extremely happy with the event and was confident of hosting bigger events in future.

“We learnt a number of lessons and we are looking to improve where we lacked. A chance to test our abilities comes again when the top five return for another camp anytime soon,” she said.

Samantha said Fungai will be going to Thailand, together with another girl who would have come up tops at the boot camp for the top five.
“If Fungai does not win on this camp she will still go to Thailand,” she said

Besides the winners Voleen Ngulube and Tina Maphosa who took number four and five respectively are also coming to the camp. The camp will involve rigorous exercise that includes voice training. The five beauties are not new to these exercises as they have done them prior to the competition. These included etiquette techniques, grooming and deportment lessons.

“The camp will be a short one, as we are running on a tight budget, but we will train and groom these models to be superstars on the international stage,” said Samantha.

She called on well wishers to support the cause and help the models realise their dreams.
“A number of sponsors helped us and we are thankful to them. We need more sponsors for our upcoming events and for models to excel in Thailand,” said Samantha.

In Thailand, Fungai and the other model will compete with contestants from other countries at the Miss Grand 2013 on 19 November.
