THE Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has warned of high temperatures in most parts of the country today and urged people to take precautionary measures such as avoiding direct sunlight.

In a statement yesterday, the MSD confirmed that the atmosphere was drying out, and sunny and hot weather was expected countrywide.

“Accordingly, tomorrow 29 December 2017, we in as far as high temperatures are concerned, therefore, urge the public to take measures such as avoiding direct sunlight as much as possible, wearing wide brimmed hats and the use of umbrellas and more importantly monitor our daily weather bulletins,” said MSD.

According to the forecast, MSD said isolated showers should not be ruled out due to remnant moisture, especially in Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces.

The department encouraged the public to take precautionary measures against mosquitoes, which are proliferate due to incessant rains.

“During this season, mosquitoes breed especially near bodies that can hold stagnant water such as dams, swimming pools and even small containers,” said MSD. “Noting that mosquitoes only require an inch of standing water to breed thus, preventative measures need to be taken against these vectors.”

MSD said for better advice on mosquitoes, the public should approach the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
