Bongani Ndlovu Showbiz Correspondent
MISRED, real name Samantha Musa is a sassy, foxy radio presenter who is a face and name to look for in the future. She describes herself as a woman who is comfortable with her body. The 25-year-old curvaceous beauty has been on ZiFM’s The Ignition morning show with Tonderai Katsande for one year after replacing Tinopona Katsande. MisRed, in her short career, has met with celebs like American R’n’B artiste Trey Songs, multi-talented US actor, producer, stand-up comedian, writer and film director Marlon Wayans and American rapper French Montana.
Saturday Leisure Correspondent Bongani Ndlovu (BN) spoke to MisRed about her life and how she feels about working as a presenter on the radio show.
Family

BN: Tell us who MisRed is?
MisRed: MisRed is a single working mother who’s in love with her four year old daughter Hannah.
BN: Who are your parents and where did you grow up?
MisRed: My parents are Stanley Musa who grew up in Harare’s Tafara suburb and Albertina Musa born and raised in Mabvuku. I grew up in Tafara before we moved to Highlands with my parents and siblings Stanley, Sasha and Shanice the youngest.
I’m not related to Patience Musa. We’re both from Malawi but have no family ties. We actually investigated.

BN: Who was your main inspiration growing up?
MisRed: I wasn’t in that mindset when I was growing up. My teenage years were filled with rebellious behaviour and I was a handful for my parents. When I was in Form Three my friends and I hatched a plan to go to a night club. We’d lied that it was a schools musical concert. We were caught and were suspended. Can say I was a difficult child.
Personal

BN: Who Is MisRed dating?
MisRed: (laughs) I can’t tell you who he is because he said I can’t get him involved in what I do.

BN: You said you were once married, tell us about that.
MisRed: I don’t like talking about it because it sounds like I’m throwing myself a pity party. There was a lot that happened when I was married.

BN: How did you pick yourself up afterwards and became a successful single working mother?
MisRed: I grew up after I walked out of the marriage. When I found out that I was pregnant shortly after I left the marriage I realised the responsibility that was in front of me. I’d to put my life in order to look after my child, and I did just that.
Work

BN: How do you feel about being compared to Tin Tin the presenter you replaced?
MisRed: Tin Tin and I are two different people. So I can’t see why we should be compared. She was good at what she did and I’ve learnt a lot from her. I also learn a lot from TK (Tonderai Katsande) who walks me through our shows.

BN: Do you have an ambition for you own prime-time slot?
MisRed: Yes, I want something like that maybe in the next five years. As you know I’m learning from TK and I learn something new every day.

BN: Tell us your experiences at the MTV African Music Awards in South Africa and the recent trip to South Africa.
MisRed: Going to these places gives you a lot of exposure. You meet a lot of people and tour a lot of places. It’s a plus for one’s career. I saw it as an opportunity for me to improve my career, and an eye opener.

It helped broaden my horizon to make me see beyond the Zimbabwean market but also the African and international market.

BN: Which celebs have you met on the red carpet and who was your favourite to talk to?
MisRed: I met Trey Songz, French Montana and Bonang Matheba when I was at the MTV Africa Music Awards. I was surprised when I interviewed Marlon Wayans on what a down to earth person he is. He speaks to you at your level and he wants to understand you as a person.
Of all the celebs I interviewed the most boring was American R’n’B star Trey Songz. All people think that Trey Songz is the most charming person on earth. My experience with him is that he is full of himself as he thinks everyone wants a piece of him. My attitude towards such people is to treat people the same way they treat me.

BN: Give us a comparison of the MTV Awards in South Africa and the Zimbabwe Music Awards.
MisRed: Our hearts as Zimbabweans are in the right place, but we’re very far. For instance rehearsals for the MTV Africa Music Awards were held over two days, ours were held a day before. Maybe it was because of financial constraints but we’re worlds apart.

BN: Describe your fashion sense, what do you like to wear, favourite colour etc.
MisRed: I like to dress in what I call a non fussy style, relaxed laid back.

BN: Favourite celeb fashion style icon
MisRed: Weirdly enough Gamu Manyika my make up lady who doesn’t conform to the norm in terms of dressing and the way she goes about her work. She’s my style icon.
BN: Favourite type of lipstick

MisRed: Mac Hugme Lipstick
BN: Favourite colour
MisRed: I know it sounds cliché but it’s red.

BN: Favourite perfume
MisRed: I love sweet scented perfume such as Flowerbomb.

BN: Do you have a shoe fetish?
MisRed: I don’t have one

BN: Accessories…
MisRed: Watches
