TWENTY-five-year old Lerato Nare was at the weekend crowned Miss East 68 at a glitzy affair that was held at the popular leisure spot in Bulawayo.

She walked away with $150 and was appointed as brand ambassador of E68. The first princess Tendai Sibanda (22) was given $75, second princess Nolungelo Nyoni (25) $50 and Miss Personality Zwoluga Moyo (18) $50.

The competition organised by SuQea Fashion Hub saw eight ladies from Fingers Modelling Agency, Open Eye Studio and freelancers taking to the ramp.

Former Miss Zimbabwe Bongani Dhlakama, Sukoluhle Bhebhe and Jan Manqindi (Mr Fingers) were the judges on the night. The models were judged on posture, stage presence, walk and confidence in the various categories that comprised of swim, formal, casual and evening wear.

Bhebhe who organised the pageant said it was held to empower the girl child.

“We held this show mainly to empower the girl child so that we can create jobs for them by promoting and getting their names out there.”

What a joke. How do you empower the girl child by letting her parade in front of men to judge her beauty or lack thereof.
