A NAMIBIAN milling company, Ohangwena Mills, has announced plans to expand its business to Zimbabwe after identifying opportunities during the recent Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).

The agro-processing firm produces a variety of products such as mealie-meal, wheat, flour and stock feeds.

The company’s executive director, Steve Biko Nghiwewelekwa, said they were in the process of securing deals with local firms for the proposed investment.

He said coming to the ZITF two months ago was an eye opener for the milling firm as it had been exposed to various business opportunities in the country.

“Expanding to Zimbabwe is definitely on the cards. This is a great market for our products. We’re currently working on securing deals.

“The sooner this happens the better,” he said.

Nghiwewelekwa said his milling company was also interested in marketing Zimbabwean products to Namibia because of their high quality.

“The products on display were really impressive and we’d like them to be available on the Namibian market.

“By so doing, we’d be implementing the theme of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair of ‘Stimulating Trade, Seizing Opportunities to Accelerate Growth’,” said Nghiwewelekwa.

He said expanding business to Zimbabwe was a way of strengthening the already good ties between the two countries.

“We share a lot of trading with Zimbabwe so this milling business will be a way of just cementing what’s already been there and strengthening our bilateral relationship in the world of trade,” he said.

The proposed investment is envisaged to increase competition and create employment in the milling industry.
