POLICE have released the names of the four people who died after a vehicle they were travelling in sideswiped a haulage truck before colliding head-on with another truck along the Harare-Bulawayo near Mbembesi on Tuesday night.

National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba named the victims yesterday, as she named another two members of the public who died in an accident in Harare.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to confirm the names of the victims who passed on in two separate road accidents which occurred on January 10, 2018 and January 9, 2018. In the first accident the victims have been identified by their next of kin as follows: Alice Mitchel Chabuka (16) and Sabulawa Siziba (50) from Glen View Harare,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.

“Those who were killed at the 396KM peg along the Harare-Bulawayo in Mbembesi accident are: Nesbert Marara (33) from Gwabalanda, Gift Tinashe Musewe (26), Nephap Ndlovu (30) and Edward Manzombe (40).”

The deceased were headed towards Bulawayo while the two trucks were travelling towards Gweru.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba expressed concerns that members of the public were needlessly losing lives on roads accidents.

“The ZRP is deeply concerned with the loss of lives in the road accidents. Our sincere condolences to the bereaved family members. We’re urging motorists to avoid speeding and to exercise caution when travelling,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba. – @nqotshili.
