A PLUMTREE man has been arraigned for allegedly raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter thrice while her mother was in hospital.

The matter came to light after a prophet told the mother that the Holy Spirit had revealed to him that her husband had sexual intercourse with her daughter.

Pinos Moyo (39) was not asked to plead to a charge of rape when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Miss Evelyn Mashavakure.

He was remanded in custody to September 29.

State allegations are that Moyo raped his stepdaughter, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, while her mother was at a maternity hospital for check up.

Prosecuting, Mr Nkathazo Dlodlo, said: “The accused person raped the complainant on three occasions. They were sharing a room. On the first occasion, he dragged the complainant from her blankets on the floor to his bed. He removed his and her clothes and raped her once”.

He added: “On the last two counts, the accused person would sneak into the complainant’s blankets. He threatened to assault her with a switch in the event that she told anyone about the rape.

The complainant’s mother was approached by a prophet who told her that her husband had sexual intercourse with her daughter. She confronted the accused and he admitted.”
