RECENTLY opened Red Cafe in Bulawayo has a treat especially for reggae music lovers as the spot will tomorrow launch a Sunday outing which they have named “Amarasta Sundays”.

The themed Sundays will be hosted by Champion Sounds comprised of the dynamic duo of selectors Ras Obido and Crazy Black.

Manager at Red Cafe, Babongile Sikhonjwa, said there were a lot of reggae lovers in the city that were hungry for entertainment centred on the genre.

“This is for people who are into reggae and Jamaican dancehall music. I used to host such an event at Jock & Saddle and Kudu Bar and I thought, why not bring it to Red Cafe.

“In the past, these were very successful and we expect nothing less,” said Sikhonjwa.

“Also, I was inspired by the Action Pak Sundays at Legends’ Bar in Harare hosted by Papa Lodza which have a great following.”

Sikhonjwa said the dress code will be Jamaican wear with Caribbean drinks and meals being served during Amarasta.

He said festivities will begin at 6PM until late and the playlist would be an array of lover’s rock, conscious and then later old school and new school dancehall.

“At the begging of the night, it’s all lovers’ rock and old school reggae and dancehall. This will also see me dabble on the decks during that time.

“As the night goes on, new school dancehall will up the ante for the music lovers,” said Sikhonjwa.

The radio personality expressed confidence with the duo of Champion Sounds describing them as the best in the game.

“Underrate these guys at your own peril. Crazy Black is a brilliant DJ and he showed this when he again upstaged Judgement Yard at Hartsfield Shisa Nyama.

“Ras Obido is equally good and he’s been under my wing for some time. So with these two as Champion Sounds, I’m confident that the partying will be non stop during Amarasta,” said Sikhonjwa.

He said with time, they would start playing Dub, the genre that reggae originated from with Skyz Metro FM radio personality Gabs Fire who is also a reggae artiste set to lead the way.
