A BULAWAYO woman was allegedly severely assaulted by her husband after asking him where he had spent the night, a magistrate has heard.
Thinkwell Moyo, 30, of Mahatshula Suburb had allegedly left home on April 16 only to return on the following morning at around 7AM.Moyo pleaded not guilty to an assault charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze.

He was remanded out of custody on $50 bail to May 28 for trial.

Moyo told the court that he did not assault his wife, preferring to dismiss the matter as a mere “misunderstanding”.

“Your worship I didn’t assault her but instead, we had a misunderstanding. This was after she asked me where I had spent the night. I told her that I slept at our neighbour’s house but she didn’t believe me,” said Moyo.

Prosecuting, Taurayi Hondoyemoto told the court that on April 17 and at around 7AM, Moyo came home and found his wife awake.

“Moyo hadn’t slept at home the previous night and when his wife, Sukoluhle Moyo, asked him where he had spent the night, he felt offended and attacked her,” said Hondoyemoto.

The court heard that a misunderstanding arose when Moyo stated that he had slept at their neighbour’s house.

Hondoyemoto said Moyo was angered by Sukoluhle’s constant nagging and he picked up a stick that he used to assault his wife several times on her legs.

Moyo, said the prosecutor, also punched Sukoluhle several times on the head.

The court heard that Sukoluhle was rescued by Moyo’s mother who had been called to the fighting couple’s house by her daughter.
