STAKEHOLDERS in the tourism and hospitality sector will next week convene in Nyanga for the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) as they interrogate pricing, tax issues and the sector’s competitiveness.

The HAZ congress, which will run from November 22 to 24, is expected to draw participants from hotel and tour operators as well as travel agents to chart the way forward for the industry for the next 12 months. This year’s conference will focus on the impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on hospitality and tourism as its theme.

Major speakers at the congress include the Hospitality, Environment and Tourism Minister Edgar Mbwembwe as well as other key stakeholders from the travel and hospitality sector.

Industry reports on tax, price impacts and competitiveness will be tabled at the congress, which will also incorporate the HAZ’s annual general meetings, together with its sister organization — the Catering Employers’ Association of Zimbabwe.

“This will be a most important gathering, as we shall adopt a plan for the coming year, in which we shall create a means by which the association can play a more meaningful role in representing the interests of its members and in assisting in driving hospitality forward into a brighter future,” said HAZ president George Manyumwa.

The congress will also run concurrently with the hospitality fair, at which suppliers of goods and services to the industry will have displays and interact with delegates as they create market linkages.
