Each province will receive two vehicles. One of the vehicles will be used during times of bereavement while the other will be for administrative purposes.

The teacher organisation has a funeral scheme, the Bereavement Fund Scheme, which seeks to afford members a decent burial but has been reportedly facing transport problems.

In an interview yesterday, Zimta chief executive officer Mr Sifiso Ndlovu said the organisation was concerned about the welfare of its members, hence the decision to buy the vehicles.

Mr Ndlovu said the vehicles were bought using Zimta resources.

“We bought vehicles worth $800 000 for our members and each province will get two brand new Ford Ranger vehicles. One vehicle will assist members in the province during times of bereavement as we want everyone who dies to get a decent send off,” said Mr Ndlovu said.

He said the other vehicle will be used to administration duties such as membership education, recruitment and retention.

Mr Ndlovu said officers will now be able to access very remote areas that they could not reach before.
He said 20 new cars were an addition to the old fleet of 20 the organisation has which were now proving  unreliable.

Zimta recently launched a motorcycle scheme for its members where each province was allocated
motorcycles to be sold to members under favourable terms.

However, the teacher organisation is concerned that the uptake of motorcycles was low in some of the provinces.

The organisation has a voluntary membership of 40 000 who pay monthly subscriptions.
