A BULAWAYO woman who defaulted community service twice, yesterday turned up in court clad in a bum short and crop top that exposed her tummy.

Prison officers at the court gave unrepentant Morisha Dube, 19, a wrapping cloth to cover up her semi-nudity before she could enter court.

The teenager, who was convicted of assault, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso facing a charge of contempt of court.

Dube told the court that she failed to complete community service because her child fell sick.

Magistrate Chimiso spared her a jail term and gave her another opportunity to finish the remaining hours of her community service sentence.

“You’re hereby reinstated for the completion of the defaulted hours,” said the magistrate.

Dube performed 69 hours out of 210 hours that the court had ordered her to perform at CID Nkulumane on June 4 this year.

This was after she failed to complete her community service at Nketa Primary School where she defaulted after she served 24 hours.

She failed to complete her sentence after she was arrested for another offence.

The offence was not specified in court.

Prosecuting, Mitchelle Chiboiwa said on July 31 last year at around 3AM, Innocent Ndlovu was drinking beer at Mqombothi Sports Bar.

She said Ndlovu asked for a cigarette from someone outside the bar and Dube followed him where she struck him three times on the forehead with an empty beer bottle.

Chiboiwa said the matter was reported to police leading to Dube’s arrest.

A medical report produced in court showed that Ndlovu suffered swelling and lacerations on the forehead.

For the offence, Dube was sentenced to 12 months in jail, of which six months were suspended on condition that she does not within that same period commit an offence involving violence.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition that she completes 210 hours of community service at Nketa Primary School on or before August 21, 2014.
