AN 86-year-old Gwanda man has applied for a protection order against his abusive grandson whom he alleged was threatening to kill him and then commit suicide.

In his application filed at the Gwanda Magistrate’s Court, Mr Nathaneal Moyo of Nsindu Village said his grandson, Jaison Bwere was in the habit of assaulting, insulting and threatening to kill him.

He said he lives alone with his grandson who was taking advantage of the situation to harass him.

“I’m having problems with my grandson who is constantly abusing me. He abuses me physically at times by slapping me or pushing me. He also insults me and threatens to kill me and to commit suicide once he has murdered me.

“I’m now living in fear at my own homestead because of his unruly behaviour. I’m now an old man and I can’t defend myself when he attacks me. We stay alone at my homestead and he is using that to his advantage knowing that no one can come to my rescue,” he said.

Mr Moyo said he had tried to chase his grandson out of his homestead but he refused to leave and became violent.

He begged the court to grant him a protection order that will restrict Berwe from insulting or assaulting him and threatening him.

“He should vacate my homestead because I’m now living in fear in my own home. I have accommodated him in my house over the past years and he has only tormented me in return. Once he vacates he shouldn’t set foot to my homestead again.

“I decided to seek a protection order because each time I engage him over his behaviour, he becomes violent,” he said.
