Speaking on behalf of all traditional leaders in the two districts during the official launch of the National Chairman’s Charity Fund in Plumtree Town, Chief Masendu from Bulilima District said they would be throwing their weight behind Cde Khaya Moyo in the elections scheduled for this year.

He said as traditional leaders they fully subscribed to Zanu-PF politics as the party had policy and programmes that have people at heart.

Chief Masendu, who is Senator representing traditional leaders, said the two districts were looking up to the National Chairman to continue with developmental projects in the two districts.

“We are looking up to you to take our requests to Government. Most of the projects that you started before you went to South Africa have come to a standstill and we hope you continue from where you left,” said Chief Masendu.

He thanked President Mugabe for having fulfilled his promise he made during the Chiefs’ Annual Conference in Bulawayo that no one would go hungry.

“We got seed, but unfortunately the rain was not good but we are happy that maize for the grain loan scheme has started getting to the villagers,” said Chief Masendu.

Other chiefs who graced the launch and agreed with Chief Masendu are Kandana, Sangulube, Bango and Hobodo.

Governor and Resident Minister for Matabeleland South Province Angeline Masuku told the gathering that it was Cde Khaya Moyo, who was talking about developmental projects when elected members of the House of Assembly and the Senate were quiet.

“The elected legislators do not even know that people are going hungry because if they knew the situation on the ground they would have long approached my office for assistance,” she said.

Governor Masuku urged people in the province to start income generating projects and avoid being spoon fed.

She said there were a number of Government-initiated programmes and asked the people of the two districts to embrace the Government driven indigenisation and empowerment programme.

Governor Masuku reminded the gathering that the inclusive Government would soon come to an end adding that as a party they would not want to bless homosexuality and things like dual citizenship.

She said civil servants should be allowed to participate in politics as they have a right to choose where they belong.

Cde Khaya Moyo preached unity and said elections were coming soon. He said unity in the country should be felt and not just spoken about and urged party cadres not to gossip as gossip sowed seeds of division.

He said the donation he made to the area, which is 14 tonnes of mealie meal, rice, maize, cooking oil, sugar, flour, peanut butter and washing soap should benefit the elderly and orphans in the area.

Chiefs and the DAs would oversee the selection process, he said.
