LEGENDARY musician Dr Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi put up a top notch performance at Groove Night Club on Wednesday evening where he left fans doing the “jit jive” after a scintillating performance. The show dubbed “Tuku solo acoustic night” started off as an intimate affair with the superstar narrating a story from 1976, a period during which the black majority were not privy to employment under white minority rule, before the country attained its independence in 1980.

A marvel to watch, his fingers caressed each chord skillfully, blending harmoniously with a set of acoustic drums and a bass guitar, the superstar did not disappoint his legion of fans who had come to watch him.

Tuku gave revellers real value for their money as he moved artistically from the “cherry plum” storyline which had created an intimate atmosphere to some of his latest songs including Hosanna, which fans sang along to confidently.

Samanyanga was not be ignored by Bulawayo music lovers who showed up at the nightclub in numbers, despite the fact that it was a Wednesday, a day which most people would prefer to spend at home.

Clad in a white shirt and black pair of trousers, Tuku proved that he still had the energy and ability to make people sing along and dance through his performance. The superstar, who was performing at the venue for the first time, gave revellers an opportunity to dance and at the same time giving them an opportunity to sip their drinks. Judging from the choice of songs that were performed, Tuku was not in a hurry as he took time to talk to his fans during his performance. He played a mixture of slow paced and up tempo beats as well as shared a couple of dance moves which fans gladly mimicked.

While he was performing, revellers could be heard singing aloud as they danced from different positions in the venue. The mature crowd, which was not jostling to get to the front of the stage sang along to hits including Dzoka Uyamwe, Patapata, Neria and Manyemwe.

However, those who missed his performance at Groove have been given yet another opportunity to watch him perform live in the city at Stanley Square in Makokoba tomorrow evening. He will share the stage with Ndolwane Super Sounds.
