A BULAWAYO woman yesterday begged a magistrate to dissolve her 30-year-old marriage after her husband deserted their matrimonial home 10 years ago.Shella Moyo (nee Khanye) of Nkulumane suburb pleaded with magistrate Victor Mpofu to terminate her marriage with her husband, Danisa Moyo, of Village Kukwana, Insuza.

Khanye and Moyo got married under the Marriage Act, Chapter 5:07, in April 1984.

She said ever since Moyo left her, he had never set foot in their matrimonial home only for her to meet him for the first time in 10 years in court for the hearing.

“Your Worship, I don’t want to go out of this court without a divorce. Please tear up this piece of paper because I want nothing to do with him.

“He left me with six children all alone and never set foot in our house. I stayed for 10 years without seeing him and he comes back today saying he loves me.

“I have suffered a lot because his relatives have never bothered about my kids and me.

“When they hold functions like umthethelo they don’t bother inviting my children yet they’re now grown ups.”

“I want to make things easy for him. I want him to leave me alone so that he remains with his wife.

“I don’t see a reason for me to still hold on to him yet he has another woman. I’m not going back. I stand by my particulars of the claim because I no longer love him,” said Khanye.

Magistrate Mpofu referred the couple for counselling and ordered them to come back to court on June 22 after Moyo said he still loved his wife.

Moyo told the court that he disappeared because he was trying to make money for his family.

“Your Worship, I still love my wife. I’m asking the court to give us a chance so that we try to fix things together. All the property I worked for, I left it with her and the children.

“There are no reasons why I left home. I just went to our rural home where I married another woman. However, she has also married another man.”

“I’ve worked hard for her and the children. I also have a stand at the flea market where she takes the money. She also takes all the money from our tenants.”

After court, Khanye refused to go with Moyo to submit their referral letter from the court to a professional counsellor as instructed by the magistrate.
