AFTER winning the 2013 harmonised elections with more than two-thirds majority, Zanu-PF is now geared to re-ignite the economy and improve the lives of the people. In an interview yesterday, Zanu-PF National Chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said the revolutionary party would prioritise people-centred programmes.

Cde Khaya Moyo said the win by Zanu-PF was good for the country, as it meant the turning point for the country and its people who suffered under the inclusive Government.

“The win is good for the people because Zanu-PF is the only party with policies and programmes which are people-centred as enunciated in our manifesto. What is important is that our main theme is Indigenise, Empower, Develop and Create Employment,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

President Mugabe polled a total of 2 110 434 votes beating his main rival, MDC-T president Mr Morgan Tsvangirai by nearly one million votes. Mr Tsvangirai got 1 172 349 while MDC leader Welshman Ncube polled 92 637 votes, Dr Dumiso Dabengwa of Zapu got 25 416 votes and Mr Kisinoti Mukwazhi of Zimbabwe Development Party 9  31 votes.

A total of 3,48 million turned out to vote on 31 July.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the party will immediately start implementing its policies.

“Just as President Mugabe said at his star rallies, we are concerned about uplifting the lives of our people and developing the country. The focus would be on revamping and building infrastructure,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

He said the revolutionary party would ensure that civil servants enjoyed improved working conditions as opposed to the previous years when MDC-T controlled key ministries in Government and failed to address the plight of Government workers.

“Schools and hospitals must also be maintained in terms of renovating buildings and also ensure that no one is sent home because of failure to pay user fees,” Cde Khaya Moyo said.

The national chairman said the party was committed to improving the lives of the people.
“The Finance Minister Tendai Biti was not concerned about the lives of the people hence he was refusing to allocate resources to the backbone of the country’s economy which is the agricultural sector. We as a party must concentrate on putting people at the centre of all our programmes,” Cde Khaya Moyo said.

He said people voted for Zanu-PF because they realised that MDC-T had no solutions to challenges facing the country.
“The MDC formations failed to deliver during their time in the inclusive Government and people punished them,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

President Mugabe won the 2013 presidential election with an overwhelming 61,9 percent in a peaceful plebiscite that saw his main rival Mr Morgan Tsvangirai of MDC-T managing 33,94 percent.

Zanu-PF won 160 National Assembly seats against MDC-T’s 49. One seat went to prominent lawyer Mr Jonathan Samkange who stood as independent candidate.
