THE Zimbabwe National Road Authority will in the next few weeks start rehabilitating Manama road from Bethel through Manama Mission Hospital to Tuli River, a stretch of about 20 kilometres.

This was announced by the Minister of Rural Development, Promotion of National Culture and Preservation National Heritage, Cde Abedinico Ncube, during a tour of his Gwanda South constituency to mobilise villagers to participate in the building of science libraries.

The Provincial Affairs Minister said Zinara had already made an undertaking to repair Manama road.

“On Saturday last week I was here for a funeral. I came with Zinara acting CEO Juma (Moses) who agreed that the authority would tar the stretch from Bethel through Manama Mission up to Tuli River. The work is going to start in the next few weeks,” said Cde Ncube.

He said modalities for the ground breaking ceremony were being worked out.

“I have spoken to my counterpart, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Cde Joram Gumbo, so that he comes here next week for the ground breaking ceremony of the road. We want to make sure that people visiting the hospital and going to the new border post, Mlambapeli, will have easy access,” said Cde Ncube.

The new border post is set to be opened on the first of June.

During a recent visit to Gwanda, Cde Gumbo promised villagers that there would be a new road up to the new border.

“We have received concerns that patients are dying on the road due to the bad state of the road,” said Cde Gumbo then.
