All set for pool awards

ALL is set for the Bulawayo Pool Association awards ceremony to be held at Raylton Sports Club this afternoon. “It’s all systems go with regards to our 2014 awards ceremony. We’ve invited our sister associations, all the pool leagues in Zimbabwe will grace the occasion. Also invited are all disciplines that are registered with the Sports and Recreation Commission in Bulawayo,” said BPA spokesperson Donald Wadawu.

He said an SRC representative will be the guest of honour and pool players and teams will be awarded in different categories.

In the Pool Masters category, Golden Black’s Lamulani Ndlovu, Terence Mhindu of Exchange and Kings duo of Lloyd Chitsulo and Paul Mutizo have been nominated for the award.

Golden Girls’ trio of Petronella Sibanda, Flatta “Heavy” Moyo and Noma Moyo will be vying for the Pool Mistress accolade.

“For Pool Masters and Mistress awards the the winners will be overall champions in the four tournaments held in the season namely, BPA Season Opener, Shumba Singles Tournament, Emakhandeni Cricket Club Singles Tournament and Sunset Café Singles contest,” said Wadawu.

He said there will be an award for the Well Managed Team and in the association’s Premier League, ONE, Gold and Black and Raylton have been nominated for the accolade.

In the association’s Division One A League, Egumeni, Neighbourhood Tarven and Pamuzinda are clubs that have been nominated while in the Division One B ZRP Nkulumane, Munyoro Community and Sibamba are the three clubs that are vying for the award.

For the Outstanding Player award, Wadawu said the winning teams in the association’s three leagues — champions Kings, The Lounge and Enkundleni named their respective leagues’ outstanding players.

ZRP Nkulumane, ZRP Central and Drill Hall have been nominated for the Best Police Teams award while Emmanuel Rapasi, Stanley Mako and Paswani of Kings are the three nominees for the Best Under -20 Player honour.

The Best Under-20 Player award is sponsored by BPA chairman Godfrey Kondo.

On the same token, Kondo has bankrolled part of the Division One League’s medals and all the individual awards.

His deputy Liberty Mcijo, through their Mcijo, Dube Partners law firm will sponsor part of Division One medals.

Charles Murambiwa, who is Kings vice chairman and the manager of Early Ashes Enterprises, sponsored 30 gold, 30 silver and 30 bronze medals for the Premier League.

Wadawu said the association’s awards committee was due to finalise on two Sports Writers of the Year awards last night.

Meanwhile action in the Midlands Pool Association continues today with Pure Drop going against Sports Club and Uptown hosting TNC while Airforce play Toyo at their backyard.
