Bulawayo hosts Jikinya provincial finals

Ten primary schools are today competing in the Bulawayo Jikinya dance provincial finals and the winner will represent the province at the national finals.

The provincial dance festival will be held at the Amphitheatre and admission is free.

This year’s competition dance is Muchongoyo but competitors will also showcase a dance of their choice.

Inkanyezi, Mabhukudwane Mkhithikathebe, Zulukandaba, Mbizo, Matshayisikhova, Lochview, Hope Fountain, ZRP Ross Camp and Coghlan will battle it out for a ticket to represent the province at the national finals to be held in Beitbridge on Thursday next week.

Meanwhile, tomorrow there will be a Choral and Percussion competition for primary school children at the same venue. Coghlan, Barham Green, Emakhandeni, Hugh Beadle, Thembiso, St Bernard’s, Mgoqo, Mabhukudwane, Senzangakhona and Mahatshula are competing in the choral while Mgiqika, Fusi, Mazwi, Ntabeni, Mkhithikathebe, Coghlan, Barham Green, Greenfield, Mgoqo and Lukhanyiso are competing in the percussion.

Bongani Sibanda, National Association of Primary School heads (Naph) Bulawayo provincial chairperson said all was set for the two events.

“We’re ready to host all the competitions. What’s left is for people to come and enjoy the very best in traditional dance, choral and percussion,” said Sibanda.
