Cassper Nyovest is over the moon after winning two All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) at a ceremony held in Nigeria at the Eko Hotels and Suites last Sunday.

The SA rapper who recently returned from a vacation with his lover – Boity where they had gone to celebrate the success of #FillUpTheDome – was awarded Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa and Best Artiste in African Hip hop.

An excited Nyovest spent the better part of yesterday on social networking sites posting images holding his two trophies.

“Bagged 2/2 awards yesterday. Shout out to the fans. #HottestRapperInAfrica.”

Cassper’s rap rival, AKA’s partnership with Nigeria’s Burna Boy on track ‘All Eyes On Me’ saw him being awarded for Best African Collaboration.

After being awarded Best Female Musician in Southern Africa last year, Zimbabwe’s Cindy Munyavi was nominated again this year in the same category for her track – ‘Kutsvaga Mari’ off her latest ‘Music Vocal Cindy’ album. She, however, lost out to Kalawa Chikita, Busiswa with hit track ‘Ngoku’.

Munyavi yesterday said being nominated for the prestigious awards which honour African artistes who will have excelled was enough credit.

“The Afrima Awards were splendid. The award went to Busiswa from South Africa. Congratulations to her.

“Thank you for your continued support. Two consecutive nominations are a huge feat,” posted Munyavi on her Facebook page.

Humbled by her portrait from last year’s awards ceremony which was displayed on this year’s red carpet, Munyavi said: “I was honoured with a huge picture on the Afrima red carpet wall. I’m so humbled…Mwari Vandisimudzira.”

The Afrima’s were more of an East African affair as artistes from that region dominated, winning most of the categories. Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz was the biggest winner of the night as he took home three awards notably the Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year award, while Kenyan group singers, Sauti Sol notched two awards.

Nigeria was represented on the award winners’ list as Darey, Flavour, Adekunle Gold, Kiss Daniel, Olamide and Yemi Alade won one plaque each.

However, Davido was the most disappointed as he lost both the Artiste of the year and Song of the year awards to Diamond Platinumz.

And the winners are:

Artist of the Year – Diamond Platnumz

Song of the Year – Nawe by Diamond Platnumz

Lifetime Achievement Award – LadySmith Black Mambazo.
