ZIFA Central Soccer League (CSL) chairmanship hopeful Stanley Chapeta this weekend took his campaign to Gwanda where he met members of the football fraternity from Matabeleland South ahead of the March 6 elections. Chapeta repeated his earlier pronouncements that he had already secured sponsorship for the CSL, saying the sponsor had already acquired training equipment that would be distributed to all the league’s 18 clubs this week as a concrete commitment that they will bankroll the CSL should he be thrust into office.

“The sponsor is already there. What’s left is for them to inject money into the league. To show commitment that they’ll be sponsoring the league, they’ve already sent a consignment of training equipment comprising training kit, balls and cones, among other equipment, that’ll be given to the clubs,” said Chapeta.

“The consignment has already been shipped from South Africa where the sponsor is based and we’re expecting it in the country this week.” Zifa Matabeleland South chairman Nkosilathi Ncube appealed to Chapeta to cascade the sponsorship to provincial leagues should he win the elections.

“We’re happy as provinces that the region will have a sponsor because it improves the level of competition. However, as provinces, we act as feeders to the region, hence should you win, we ask you to ensure that part of the sponsorship also goes to the provinces so that the quality of football in the Division 2 leagues improves,” said Ncube.

He said the region should also capacitate administrators by conducting administration courses, as some of them were not well versed with modern football administration trends.

CSL acting chairman Patrick Hill, who also attended Chapeta’s campaign, said board members will attend every candidate’s election campaign if they are invited.

Chapeta is set to battle it out for the chairmanship with inaugural CSL chairman Patrick Hokonya and Whawha chairperson Musa Ntonga.
