VETERAN journalist and pioneer television presenter Alison “Alice” Chavunduka will be buried at Glen Forest Memorial Park in Harare today. Family spokesperson, Chris Mbanga said a funeral service for Alice will be held at the Anglican Cathedral Church at 1pm ahead of burial at 3pm.

Alice died at 46 last week Sunday in Johannesburg, South Africa, after being in a coma since New Year’s Eve.  Her body arrived home on Saturday.

“Alice was a focused and determined person who wanted to succeed in whatever she did. She will be buried tomorrow at Glen Forest Memorial Park,” Mbanga said.

“The funeral service will be held at the Anglican Cathedral at 1pm. We are at a loss as a family but very proud of her at the same time.”
Mbanga said the family has been robbed of a determined person whom they were proud of.  He said Alice left a legacy of being the first black female television presenter in South Africa.

“We are of the belief that she has found the eternal rest that God’s hands give for one of his own,” said Mbanga.
Broadcasters from across the board, who have paid tribute to her, are expected to attend the burial.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said: “We have sent out our dear condolences of the SABC, because we think that as pioneer in that field she has contributed a lot in making sure that women are on television today. She went and became the first presenter on TV1 for many years, and that has helped the women that are on television today to then have courage to continue where she left, and for us we are saying to the family we have lost a great person.”
