at Luveve tomorrow.
The Bulawayo side has begun the season well under Philani Ncube and are currently second on the table, equal on 16 points with their opponents Motor Action, who lead the pack because of a superior goal difference.
Ncube believes they have a realistic chance but would not downplay the magnitude of the task in their hands.
Joey Antipas’ Mighty Bulls have been impressive with some fine performances, including victories over rivals Dynamos and CAPS United.
Chicken Inn briefly landed on top of the table last month when they beat Shooting Stars 4-1 at Luveve and a victory tomorrow could see them back at the summit.
Ncube said Chicken Inn were ready for the game.
“It’s a crucial game and the chances are 50/50. We only have to believe in ourselves and have the right approach. But one thing I want to make clear is that we are playing the defending champions.
“Motor Action are a very good side but we will give a good fight. They have done well in the matches they played so far but they should not expect an easy game on Saturday,” said Ncube.
Chicken Inn are coming from a morale-boosting 1-0 win over city rivals Zimbabwe Saints last week but injury worries on central defender Herbert Dick and Sikhumbuzo Banda disturbed their preparations.
The club has been doing well upfro-nt with impressive forwards Thomas Chimenya and Qinani Sibanda contributing six of the team’s 12 goals in seven starts.
But they will face a solid challenge from the Mighty Bulls defence that has conceded only once goal in seven games. Antipas reported a clean bill of health in his camp and said they are looking forward to the challenge, especially on the back of a fine performance that sank CAPS United 2-0 last week.
Zimbabwe Saints coach Willard Mashinkila-Khumalo is playing his cards close to his chest as they prepare to upstage Dynamos at Barbourfields on Sunday.
“I usually don’t like to talk about a match before it is played but I can tell you that we have prepared well.
“I know this is a much-publicised game and to me that does not make it any different to all the matches we have played.”
Mashinkila-Khumalo yesterday said Chauya Chikwata have a mission to put their campaign back on track after dropping four points in their last two matches.
The 1-0 defeat to Chicken Saints was the third loss in seven games but Saints have collected eight points after winning two and drawing two.
“I cannot say we have had a good start, neither is it bad but we have resolved that we should work hard as a team in every aspect,” said Mashinkila-Khumalo.
Saints have some players who once played for Dynamos in their books and they will be hoping that former DeMbare captain Tafadzwa Maingire, Philip Sithole and Isaac Pitamuja regain fitness ahead of the tie.
But tomorrow’s clash between CAPS United and FC Platinum should be the major highlight of the weekend.
CAPS United coach Moses Chunga and his charges will be battling on two fronts, as they also have to deal with the pressure being exerted on them by a section of militant fans.
