A district inspector in the Civil Service Commission collapsed and died in Bulawayo on Friday. Paul Ndebele of Nketa 9 suburb was on his way to Agribank along 8th Avenue with his wife, when he complained of dizziness and promptly collapsed outside his car. Narrating the incident to some church mates, the wife of the late Ndebele said that they had just passed by Mhlahlandlela offices and were on their way to Agribank.

“He had just parked the car in the centre parking and when he got out he told me he was feeling dizzy. Then he fell to the ground and that was it,” she said in tears.

Members of the public who witnessed the incident said they just saw a man fall down.

A woman only identified as MaMo said: “I was in my shop and I heard there was a man who had just collapsed. It’s so sad that death can just come like that.”

A relative who declined to be named told The Chronicle that Ndebele had attended his sister’s funeral the previous day.

“Just yesterday we were in Plumtree burying our aunt. We got to Bulawayo late and I then decided to sleep at Nketa 9 so that I could leave early this morning. My uncle and his wife left me at Renkini to board the bus to Harare,” she said.

“The bus was just taking time to fill up and we were at the rank for some time, maybe that was a premonition. I received a call telling me my uncle had collapsed and I immediately took a taxi only to find him dead,” said the niece.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the death.

“We received a report of a man who collapsed and died along 8th Avenue. The incident happened at around 10:00am,” said Insp Moyo.

Mourners are gathered at house number 5666 in Nketa 9.
