Culture Week preps begin

“The local organising committee resident in Bindura is spearheading the preparations for the national launch,” he said.
Moyo urged other organisations particularly  in the hospitality sector to do more in promoting the week.
“The hospitality industry can do more by preparing cultural cuisine during that week. People in general can also give the week props by putting on ethnic dressing among other things,” he said.

NACZ plays a co-ordinatory role, but the provinces organise their events to mark Culture Week.
Culture is a critical tool in nation building as it provides people with a sense of belonging, motivates, unites and rallies them towards a shared vision.
Besides the national launch, each province lines up arts programmes that are displayed to the people thus preserving this culture for posterity.
It is expected that various artistes from the country’s 10 provinces will display their wire crafts, sculptures, batik, clay pots, dance, poetry, literature and music in the

fun-filled celebrations across the country.

NACZ said Culture Week is aimed at providing a platform for people to appreciate an array of cultural practices in the country.
It is also meant to create social integration through arts and culture while also providing a forum for the exchange         of ideas and views among stakeholders in the culture industry.

It was launched in Bulawayo in 2002 and the following year it was again held in Bulawayo.
In 2004 it was held in Matabeleland South, while in 2005          it was held in Mashonaland East, Manicaland held the           event the following year, Mashonaland West was the  host province in 2007, while Masvingo province was the host in 2008. In 2009 it was held in Harare, while in 2010 it was held in Matabeleland South and last year it was held in Midlands.

The event was yet to be taken to Mashonaland Central, since it was launched.
