AN eye for detail from an early age and doing his own shopping at a young age has developed the style icon that Craig Zoowie is today. The fashion icon was earlier on in the month crowned Style Icon at the Zimbabwe Fashion Week in Harare, beating fashion blogger Znzorzi Adby, Gilmore Tee the global citizen and ZiFM presenter Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa.

The 28-year-old Zoowie who grew up in Bulawayo’s Njube suburb, said he has always had a strong inclination to fashion and style even at a young age.
He described himself as a person with passion for fashion.

“I believe everyone has a unique style and I strive to bring out that individualistic style. I’ve always had an eye for detail from an early age hence I chose my own clothes so nobody else could shop for me. My family would always ask me to help them when shopping and would consult on how to dress,” said Zoowie, who attended Mgiqika Primary School and St Columbus High School.

He said three years ago his cousin Sithabile suggested that he gets into fashion and style consultancy and make it into a business.

“Fashion is a lifestyle, it’s not just about the clothes but how one lives their day to day from what they eat, where they eat and where they live. As part of my job as a stylist I assist different people with their wardrobe especially when attending specific events,” said Zoowie.

Commenting on his nomination and subsequent win at the Zimbabwe Fashion Week as the Style Icon of the Year, an elated Zoowie said he was up against equally gifted style icons and was surprised that he won.

“It’s exciting because such an honour is beyond words for me. For people to nominate me is a big deal because it means they relate to my style and hopefully it inspires many. I was up against some awesome people in terms of style and I honestly had no idea how it would all turn out,” he said.

Zoowie said visibility was the key to being a fashion icon in Zimbabwe, through social media and being at fashion events in and around the country.

“I think I was nominated for fashion and style, how I present myself as well as how I relate to colleagues and clients in the fashion industry. Some might have nominated me for my interpretation of style probably through my fashion blogging for those who have come across my articles,” he said.

Internationally, Zoowie said he was inspired by Ozwald Boateng, Karl Lagerfeld and Tom Ford.

Locally he said he looks up to his boss Africa Muneti and Word of Life Pastor Goodwill Shana.
