Fans get exciting boxing treat

BULAWAYO boxing fans were treated to some exciting bouts at the Zimbabwe Boxing Federation (ZBF) national championships held at Sizinda South Beer Garden on Saturday.

The tournament, which featured the country’s top amateur boxers, saw eight pugilists being crowned champions their respective categories.

Trade Nkomozabo of Masvingo province was crowned champion in the flyweight division after beating Trymore Nyapfidza from Harare. Bongani Makovama from Masvingo won the bantamweight division after felling Allan Shumba of Harare.

Sydney Baloyi from the Zimbabwe National Army took the lightweight crown after beating Manicaland’s Luckmore Kamoto. Simbarashe Gwatirinda of Masvingo defeated Bulawayo’s Lawrence Chiyangwa in the middleweight division.

Thomas Jojo from ZNA defeated Mollen Hunda from Bulawayo to take the light welterweight title, while Admire Moyo (ZNA) was crowned welterweight champion after seeing off Prince Makwindi of Masvingo.

Tashinga Manyika of ZNA is the new heavyweight champion after defeating Mongameli Ngulube of Bulawayo. Caroline Dube (Bulawayo) beat Muchongicho Takunda to be crowned middleweight champion.

ZBF technical director Stephen Masiyambumbi said: “We crowned champions in various divisions. The level of talent was amazing and with more competitions, we hope to continue unearthing future stars for national use. As ZBF, we would like to express our gratitude to Sizinda Beer Garden for partnering with us in such a competition.” — @khumzallen
