YOUNG platinum miners, FC Platinum Under-19, powered to the top of the Zimbabwe General Medical Aid Fund Central Soccer League table after beating Ivan Hoe 2 – 1 at Mandava Stadium at the weekend.

The developmental side for Premiership outfit FC Platinum, surprised themselves and many in the league with their disciplined display.

FC Platinum Under-19 have now amassed 17 points from nine games and shot two points clear of second-placed Whawha, who were held to a goalless draw by TelOne.

Jacob Chavugama, the young platinum miners’ coach, said he was happy with how his boys were responding to their mission of developing players for the senior team.

“I am happy that the boys are continuing to play well and for us it’s good for them to understand all aspects of the game. A winning mentality is also key to the development of the players and as a developmental coach, I am happy that the team is responding well,” Chavugama said.

Elsewhere, Sheasham ended their four-match winless run by beating MSU 1-0 at Mkoba Stadium on Sunday.

Patrick Khumbula scored for the property developers, as they moved into third spot with 14 points; three points adrift of FC Platinum Under-19.

Sheasham coach Jeremiah Neganda said focus was now on their next game against ZPC Munyati at the same venue where they hope to collect maximum points.

“It is good that we got our confidence back as a team and we now await the game against ZPC Munyati on Wednesday and hope to continue from where we left,” said Neganda.
