THE Hwange Golf Open that had been scheduled to tee off on Friday has been postponed for the second consecutive year.

Hwange Golf Club acting president Charles Zinyemba said a new date will be set after consultations with the Zimbabwe Golf Association and Matabeleland Golf Society.

“Hwange Colliery Company Limited regrettably advises all professional and amateur golfers in the country and region, sister clubs to Hwange Golf Club, current and prospective sponsors and all stakeholders that the 2018 Hwange Open Golf tournament has been postponed indefinitely until further notice.

As Hwange Golf Club, we take pride in hosting this event and will advise on the revised date after consultations with the Zimbabwe Golf Association and Matabeleland Golf Associations and other stakeholders. Unforeseen circumstances on the logistical front, which are beyond the control of the company and the organising committee, have necessitated this move so as to ultimately preserve the integrity of this flagship annual event which is one of the biggest in Zimbabwe’s golfing calendar.

“While the company sincerely regrets any inconvenience this might cause to our various partners, it is our fervent hope that the same support and relationship continues when the next edition is held,” reads a statement from Zinyemba.

Last week, the coal mining giant suspended its acting managing director Shepard Manamike over what it called unethical business practices characterised by financial improprieties, particularly unauthorised expenditure.
