The Goshawks are a developmental feeder side for the senior national 15s side the Sables.

They have won three games and lost five times in the tournament, collecting 12 points and remain rooted second from bottom on the 10-team table.

Their latest defeat was at the hands of Eastern Province Elephants, who handed the Goshawks a 36-5 thumping, their third loss in a row.

The Down Touch Griffons top the log standings with 44 points after winning all their eight games.

Eastern Province’s victory over Zimbabwe saw them consolidating second position with 31 points.

Boland Kavaliers are third with 26 points and Black Lions and Valke are tied on 24 points.

Zimbabwe are only above Border Bulldogs, who are still winless in the competition.

The Goshawks’ next game against Valke will be the first opportunity for coach Brandon Dawson to watch his Rugby Africa Cup and Rugby World Cup Qualifiers squad in action.

Zimbabwe is expected to announce the squad for the qualifiers tomorrow at a gala event in Cape Town.

After the announcement, the team will play two matches against Valke and The Netherlands before heading off to France for the eight-team Rugby Africa Cup from July 1-10.

Rugby Africa Cup

The Test against The Netherlands is slated for June 25 at the Rugby Stadium Amsterdam.

At the Africa Cup, Zimbabwe will meet Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals, while Burkina Faso face Namibia.

Winners of the Rugby Africa Cup will automatically qualify for the 2023 Rugby World Cup to be staged in France.
