WHILE most of their Southern Region Division One counterparts are facing tough financial times due to the Covid-19 lockdown inactivity, Talen Vision players are reportedly a happy lot, as they are receiving their monthly salaries without any challenges.

With no games being played, most footballers in the second tier league are not receiving any income.

“Yes, there are no games being played, but we have not abandoned our players and coaches.

“We are actually giving them something to survive on. We hope and trust our sponsor will continue to do so even after the Covid-19 challenges.

“They are not getting a lot of money, but I must say our players and coaches are generally a happy lot. We have also successfully talked to another sponsor that is willing to take care of their welfare in the near future,” said Talen Vision president Khumbulani Nkomo.

Last season, Vision players were well looked after with the then Zifa Southern Region title chasing Division One side rewarding them with training allowances in addition to monthly salaries and winning bonuses.

They also received allowances for every goal scored.

While most Premier Soc­cer League teams were paying an average $500 for a win, Talen Vision players pocketed an equivalent of US$100 for every win.

CIWU coach Morris Mukwiti says most clubs only pay allowances which are linked to performances during games, but with no activity taking place, players are not being paid anything.

Mukwiti, however, said the prime objective of playing in Division One for most players was to market themselves rather than to make money. — @FungaiMuderere
