THE carnival atmosphere that enveloped the Colliery Stadium at the end of a 3-0 hammering of Highlanders on Sunday went beyond the final whistle as the club honoured its outstanding players for August and September.

Nathan Ziwini and Crispen Dickson each walked away with $150 and a shield sponsored by Premier Motor Spares (Pvt) Ltd, which is owned by Hwange FC executive committee member Kenny Sambo.

Dickson, a former Harare City defender, was all smiles after receiving his award for September and vowed to continue working hard to ensure the coalminers survive the chop.

“I am more than happy to get this award. In football you don’t play alone, but as a team and I have a feeling that if we work as a unit and have purpose and determination, the team will survive relegation. I am saying today that I will not be part of a team that is demoted from the topflight league,” said Dickson, who arrived at Hwange in mid-season.

Ziwini, who was instrumental in two of Hwange’s goals on Sunday, was also happy with the recognition.

Premier Motor Spares company representative Zimiso Maseko presented the awards with Hwange Estates manager Marvin Maseko and Hwange FC chairman Butholezwe Dube.

Goalkeeper, Taimon Mvula won the first award in April, with veteran defender Gerald Ndlovu grabbing the prize in May and midfielder Shepherd Gadzikwa getting the June accolade. There were no awards in July due to the few league games played.

The club’s outstanding player for October will be honoured in about a week’s time, with teenage striker, Delic Murimba and goalkeeper Collen Phiri among the favourites.
