A boy from New Magwgwe, Bulawayo reportedly committed suicide under unclear circumstances with indications that he had been pushed to the act following the rejection he got from his family after he and his gay lover had decided to go public about their relationship.

Prominent Moyo is said to have been discovered hanging from a low dangling tree amid reports that his family have accused his unnamed gay partner of being the cause of the suicide.

His lover, is said to be detained at Percy Ibbotson remand for young children where he was supposed to be questioned and disciplined at the behest of Prominent’s father who is said to be employed as a soldier.

Sources close to the incident revealed that the two had been engaging in an illicit gay affair for some time. However, all hell broke loose when they confessed to Prominent’s father, who instead accused the partner of leading his son astray.

“Everyone in the neighbourhood knew about this affair. While they were initially hiding it, I think they eventually relaxed and were publicly showing, going around holding its others hands and being cozy in public places.

“When they decided to tell their families of this affair, Prominent father reacted violently and even threatened to disown his child, he especially resented Prominent’s lover accusing him of being at the centre of the chaos. We believe Prominent reached a point where he felt abandoned by his family hence the suicide,” said a neighbor who declined to be named.

This publication managed to talk to his father, who identified himself as Comrade Moyo, who instead squarely blamed Prominent’s lover for being the cause of his son’s death. He said he had reported him to the police and even threatened that he would not rest until he gets justice for his late son.

“As a family, we all know that our son was not gay nor could he have caused his own death. That boy (Prominent’s lover) knows he forced our son to be gay and that he is behind our son’s suicide. Without him our son could be alive today.

“I want answers and only that boy can give me answers, he was a bad influence on my son and I will never accept that my son was gay,” said Moyo.
